I just found my 15-16" vulture cat dead and bloated in the corner of my 180. I'm sad and pissed at the same time to lose one of my favorite fish... uploadfromtaptalk1367369188714.jpgIdk what happened I just checked on him yesterday and found him dead today.

Not really....he was the boss of the tank, and he didn't have any issues letting everyone else know.

Sympathies. How was he a few weeks leading up to it? Are you saying nothing was abnormal at all? Bloat means internal/intestinal problems... before you bury him or what not, may wanna peek inside.

Sorry for your loss. That was a beautiful vulture.

He seemed pretty normal, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, the only thing I can think of is overeating, but I don't feed every day and I vary foods. But its too late to open him anyways as I already disposed of him.

Vultures are not known to die from overeating but, of course, I think it does not mean it is impossible.

I always open mine up - might learn something. The "bloat" look could be due to a clogged up intestine, a swallowed inedible object, an accumulation of liquids in the body cavity, a parasite, being gravid, etc.

When fish are gravid, they become particularly sensitive to the oxygen level in their blood - what does not affect them much when they are not gravid, kills them fast when they are. Things like oxygen concentration in the water and their ability to uptake it = gill health/function become much more important.
