I'm really excited! I just ordered a redfin and grass pickerel from Sachs. Can't wait for them to get here, I've been debating with myself on whether or not to order them for about 3 months now, and finally decided to go through with it.

Anyone have these? Could you post pics? and any pointers on their care?

I kept a grass pickerel before. They like lots of plants and will hover in the weeds. If you have other species in the tank, be sure to keep everyone well fed and provide plenty of cover. Pickerel are not aggressive feeders, so sunfish or other predators can outcompete them for food. Also, a hungry pickerel may try to take down smaller tankmates; I lost my pickerel this way when he tried to eat a green sunfish that was way too big for him to handle.

i have 2 grass, and they grew fast at first, but have really slowed down. they went from .5" to 4" in about a month and a half, and in 3 months since, they have only picked up about one more inch
i have pics in a different thread.
i have some floating plants, and they seem to like that a lot.
they dont move much, and dont "attack" feeders like i thought they would. they let them swim around a little bit, then they just hit them hard out of the blue.

how big and how much they cost ya?
you'll have to get pics up here for sure!

Thanks guys, what have you fed them? Just feeders or will they take bloodworms and earthworms as well?

The Redfin should come 3-4" and the Grass 1.5-3"
I will get pics up as soon as they come in.

feeders.
they are an ambush predator, so they need their food to be moving or they arent interested.
SOMEONE on here (not sure who) was able to get some onto a frozen food, but i think that is RARE RARE RARE

Mine took live prey only, but that included shrimp, juvenile crayfish, and nightcrawlers as well as fish.

Awesome! Just waiting for that box to show up now...

Just got my e-mail from Paul, they will be shipped on Monday!:headbang2

not sure why, but mine are by far the most aggressive fish in the tank, if i drop the feeders in, even if the pickerel's bellys are swollen from food, they attack the feeders so fast the small mouth bass has no idea whats going on, he's starting to speed up, but my sunfish just sit back and watch, then wait for some pellets to be dropped in, they rarely ever go after the feeder fish.

sometimes my red-eyed rockbass will get a feeder, but my 3 pickerel, and one small mouth get them 99%of the time.

those 4 fish will get a dozen small goldfish in less than a minute.
