Is it possible (or at all practical) to make a tile BG with a few shelves for a salt tank?

I have a 55 SW tank with 65-70 pounds of LR. Right now, it's all piled on the sand and I'm having issues with pockets of detritus accumulations in the corners. Makes for an unpleasant WC. And I don't want to redo the rock work every time I change the water. Lol.

I have been mulling over the idea of putting egg crate against the back and side walls of the tank and making shelves to get some of the rock off the sand. It would also provide a shelf for my mangrove planters and a lattice for my chaeto to grow through. Well I ran the idea by several people and have come to find out it wouldn't be strong enough for what I want. So. I'm back at square one. Just went to home depot for ideas and walked past some sort of tile display which got the gerbil running....

how 'bout using acrylic or glass sheets. slather 'em with silicone & drizzle desired substrate on that?
I can't help w/construction tho..., as I'm a complete DIY 'tard.

Couldn't you just use power heads aimed at the lr to keep the detritus from building up there?

Me too! Hahaha! That's why I'm asking! Lol

I've hot two powerheads in the LR facing each other and another 1150 Gph in the top corner. If it can be done, I haven't figured it out yet. Lol. I've changed the rock scape and powerhead placement so many times....I was hoping I'd be able to solve the problem by keeping the powerheads buried in the rock but removing some of it to a higher elevation. I have no clue though. That's why I ask...

I've seen eggcrate terraces for live rock and corals, just make sure you have enough vertical pieces to provide strength, and secure them well. You may find the terraces allow you to use less rock with the same effect, and maybe have enough for another tank or refugium.
