for right now feed them the rosies ...then introduce tilapia fillet but you will have to go a couple days with out feeding most likely buy small pellots and cram a couple into the diced half frozen tilapia fillet to get them used to the taste and start throwing in pellets with tilapia get them to the surface to feed ...Or some guys just starve them and offer pellets only or die some convert other just won't.....good luck...

ok.. i personally, as much as i love dieselmack, don't care for his version of how to convert cichla off of live. and after having to convert large cichla off of live when they are 12"+ i'm going to give you the best feeding advice you're going to get. ;)

while they are small (under 3") this works like a charm. first, let them go without eating for a day.. no big deal.. they will be hungry, but not starving. next, get some frozen bloodworms, thaw them in a glass of tank water. then pour the glass of the thawed bloodworms into the filter outlet stream. the young cichla will chase and eat anything that "swims". the first couple times they'll spit it back out.. but it only takes a day or two and they will start eating it.

then try the chopped up and frozen krill, and mysis shrimp. and just keep expanding their diet from there. this is also the ideal time to add pellets.

i prefer the floating pellets, most of my cichla have learned that the food that hits the floor isn't for them and the bichers know that they can come to the surface and steal from the cichla..

Id give them frozen brine and blood worms. Thaw them out in a little dish and use a spoon and just drop in a little at a time. Feed in the same spot all the time. When they are used to the mix add some crushed pellets. As they get used to that up the dosage of crushed pellets. Eventually they will eat straight pellets.

Just a heads up to anyone who is going to try this.....I had 2 small Monos both were 2 inches. The LFS was feeding them small rosies and I continued that for the first week I had while they got used to their new home. After a week I didn't feed them for a day and did exactly as stated above. Put blood worms in a cup and poured into the powerheads stream. They ate them and spit them out. After trying to feed them blood worms I had one that would eat them and is now successfully converted. The other died on me. So just want to give a heads up that some fish will starve themselves even in the presence of food.

Just my experience. Hats off to you guys who have better luck!

only fish i ever lost when i tried to convert them off of live were 10 - 12" cichla that had never been fed anything else.

i've lost small cichla when they were weak, and i've lost small cichla to larger predators. and i've lost small cichla to tank crashes beyond my control.. but i've never lost a the tiny guys to starvation when i've converted them off of live.

ok thanks guys! i hope this works.. cuz i have been trying to feef them bloodworms but they spit it out.. i felt bad so i went and bought some guppies for them.. ate them quick -__-.. they wont touch any pellets/sticks i put in the tank.. but i keep trying! thanks again!
