I would scrap the canister idea (maybe run 1 for mechanical) and install a wet/dry (unless you're planning on getting plants).

if you're going for a planted aquarium it's more difficult to maintain co2 levels with a wet/dry.

i meant the canister.
like have one w/ floss or whatever for mech. and have it inline with one for bio?
 
If your stock levels are light then that should be alright. Keep in mind that they don't flow nearly what is advertised when they're full of media.
