was in my neighborhood Petco and looking around I noticed a fish that I haven't seen in a long time a Firemouth and for the hefty price of $2.99 lol I picked 1 up since I moved my convicts to my sons 90 gal tank I will keep him in the 20 gal the guy told me they grow to 5" and he would be fine in the tank what do you guys think,i will post pics once the fish settles down, thanks Nick.C

5" is about right, he will be okay in there in my opinion. One thing I will say is that they seem to do much better in groups, and a 20 won't be large enough to keep more than one. But plenty of firemouths end up in worse situations than having a 20 gallon to themselves. I would put a few tall-bodied tetras in there as well for him to chase around.

Black skirt, serpae, Colombian would all work. Or any other tetra really, though small ones like neons may be eaten, which is why tall-bodied work best. He probably won't kill them, key word being probably. Dithers will help him feel comfortable in the tank and will provide him a little company/entertainment.

I’ve seen firemouths pushing 7 inches before, but honestly only ever 3 (and all three where in the same tank) such a great looking fish, group behavior is awesome. I recommend a bigger tank with a few more. (But hey sometimes that’s not an option)

Oddly enough there has been a string of really ridiculously pretty meeki at the LFS around me lately. Must be in the air.

Congrats on the new pickup!

I know I haven't seen firemouths in my area in years

I see them at almost every LFS in Massachusetts and the chain stores, ellioti are regularly available at one store.

I would love to find a group of passiones or helleri- Stanzz of those two which tends to me more ornately colored?
