Ok just placed some orders of BIO-Spira from drsfostersmith.com. I am going to be doing some testing on the product though to either aprove there 24 hour fish safe cycle or I am going to prove it wrong. I will be doing 2 1/2 hour interavals between each test to record any data that comes about. Has anyone else tested the product before? I just ordered 270 gallons worth so I am hopeing the stuff will live up to the reputation. What have you guys found with the product?

i bought some to cycle 200gallons worth of water, i think i only got around 190gallons of bio spira, put some gold fish in. and tested the water 2 days later with 0 amonia,0 nitrite, and 5 nitrate.

lets keep in mind i had over 100 goldfish in the tank :)

I've never used the product exclusivly. Normaly I add it along with established media to new tanks. Good luck with the test...dont forget to run controls as well and of course....let us know it turns out.

I will be running a 10 and 29 gallon tanks for controls and the 125 for am actual test for the products reliability and the time it takes for a full cycle to happen. I will also do other tests where I add it to a tank with some semi-established media and see how it turns out. All his will be recorded and completely tested for full reliable results. I will post the charts when I get the data.

In my experience, it does NOT cycle in a day. In fact, it may not have even speeded up cycling. I used it when setting up my seahorse tank a while back. I used more than the recommended amount and followed directions perfectly. It still took 5 weeks to go through the complete cycle. And, I used it just last week (well actually a product just like it called turbo start) on a 180 I'm cycling. Again, I used more than the recommended amount and my ammonia is still over 8 ppm and my nitrite has just begin to show a small rise today. **Of course there are no fish being tortured, I use fishless cycling, just to make that clear** I am pretty sure I already know the results of your experiment, but I think its a good idea and I will check back to see how it went.

Mine took about a week and my tank had been already running for over a month. I had high nitrites though so maybe that was why.

I am going to start wednesday and record for 2 weeks so keep a look out for the charts. I think it may or may not work. Oh and sixpack, did you keep it refridgerated? It is supposed to be in a fridge until use, maybe that's why yours did absolute crap.
