I just got a shipment of Balansae, Anubias Nana, Weeping Moss, and Java ferns. The Balansae smelled bad and seemed to be rotting but the root bulb was still firm... is it still alive? I planted it. The Ferns still look healthy as did the Anubias Nana. The weeping moss was a little brown looking but didn't smell. The ferns were somehow bunched all together in 2 clumps. Is that how they're supposed to come? They do Rhizome splitting to multiply right? So I just dig a hole and plant the whole clump?

HELP! I've never received live plants before.

Honestly I would attach the Java to a piece of wood. ON both the Anubias and Jave the Rhizome CAN NOT be burried or it will ROT.

I would on the other rooted plants trim some of the roots off and cut the stem down some, this will encourage new growth.

the balansae rotting is normal. a lot of crypt plant will rot when you move them around but will bounce back. anubias and java dont do well when planted into substrate. you should attach it to rocks or wood.

liz i encourage you to sign up over at plantedtank.net its like mfk but all about planted tanks. there u will find all the info you need and the experts can answer all your questions. very helpful site and people. im on there as well.

Ah yeah. I didn't plant the Java or the anubias. They'll be attache to rocks. They're just floating right now. Just the Balansae is burried. The moss is wrapped in these neon peices of mesh they included in all the packs (dunno what they're for) so that they don't float around the tank until I can get my driftwood (started stripping it only to realize it seemed burned on the inside and figured it wasn't safe)
