I always saw the yearly reminders and never paid them any mind. When I was moving my tank down into my office I rewired everything and decided to put in GFIC outlets.
Today I was doing my normal weekly cleaning, I put in a powerhead to clean out the gunk from under the rocks. I had my wife plug it in for me while i placed it in the tank, as soon as she did the GFI tripped. This could have been a fluke or it could have had a short and my life was saved.
Either way they are Good to have, and if you have been ignoring the warnings like I did $13 is a small price to pay for peace of mind. I was grateful to see the circuit trip.
