I just want to rant about what I just saw. I was just at a chinese restuarant, funny cuz I am chinese. Anyways they had 2 very large silver aros in a what looked to be a 120 or 150. The tank was 4x2 but not sure of the height. These aros were atleast 28-30in each. Very tall and thick. There was a bag of pellet food, so atleast they are not on feeders. My rant is, every silver I have raised. All seem to get the dreaded DE, I have a 210. These two fine specimens did not. The poor fish barely could swim in it!!!! You can tell these were older fish too, cuz the fins did not look "young". I am thinking these guys were either wild caught or were raised by someone with a huge tank and sold them to the restuarant.

Its either that or DE is more of a genetic thing rather an eviromental thing. Now discuss!!!!!!!!!

I think it's just injury... I bought my arowana without DE... one night later, one of its eye seems to be drop eye... :( ... put some cushion on those lids!!!

You should've tried spooking it LOL, one good hit on the lid should make those eyes drop right out.

I was not jealous of ther awesome fish, I was just upset why there fish were so perfectg LOL

Mine got DE after banging its head up

did the tank at the restuarant have a high lid ,I mean the distance from the waters edge to the top of the tank? just wondering .I know they can jump high but 6 or 8 inches might make the difference ?

tank was filled all the way up, maybe a 1 or 2 inches. tank had a huge rock to hold the glass down.

Koji got some captive breed silver aros with no DE. I don't think it from injury but genetic.

Hopefully if Koji breed his silver aros that is the only way we well find out if it's genetic or not if the offspring won't get a DE too. I've seen silver aros that are keep in outdoor pond that still have DE.
