I just got a tiny Blood Parrot two days ago and hopefully I can learn more about them here. I am moming from fancy goldfish so it should he interesting. I don't know the gender of the fish, but I naked it Mary Merune. It's really cute. I got it from Walmart for like $7 but it seems pretty healthy. Any advice is welcomed :)

Welcome aboard :)

The only advice I have for healthy growth is maintain good water conditions and feed proper foods. Also the aquarium size makes a difference the bigger the better.

Thanks. I had heard they were a lot like goldfish in terms of personality and care. I've only had mine two days and really love it already. Very goofy and friendly.

I noticed there aren't many posts anywhere about these fish. I know there are ethical issues with them, but as a lover of fancy egg type goldfish, I sorta didn't pay that any attention.

I have been feeding it Azoo Tropical bits and hand feeding it a gel mixture of Repashy Meat Pie and Spawn and Grow. I also have Zoo Med bloodworms for it once a week or so. It is too tiny to eat the Omega One and Krill pellets I have for it yet.

Does anybody here own these and can help me ensure I am doing the best for mine? This is my first go with anything besides goldfish and a Betta, and I am very excited because this fish is really super adorable. I heard they were shy at first, but mine really isn't shy at all. It's so friendly.

It has some missing scales on its side that I figured was due to being aggressive and fighting because it was fighting with tankmates in Walmart. I usually add a tiny bit of salt to the water to help lost scales regrow... But this is with goldfish. Is this safe with these fish?

I've already ordered it some extra artificial plants and some sand because I heard these fish don't like bare bottom and I had my goldfish bare bottom. I also am going to run out and get it another clay pot because it does seem to love going in and out of the one I gave it.

It will be the only fish in my 55 gallon tank so hopefully that's enough room for it. As it stands, the fish looks TINY in a tank of that size. My brother made fun of me when I brought the fish home... He said... That's it? Lol hopefully Mary here can inspire more than a "That's it???" one day.

I CAN put a 75 or 90 where it stands but not prepared for the extra cost. If I need a size upgrade, perhaps next year.
