About 2 weeks ago I noticed a tank with some crayfish labeled "Marbled Lobsters". I began to wonder if they were Marbled crayfish that someone might have sold them. Without being sure I passed them up. Today I was near the tank again and began wondering again if they were indeed marbled crayfish. I didn't want to ask them because I am sure they are clueless about it. So I thought to myself, let's see if any of them are carrying eggs. I noticed two in the back with eggs so I decided to buy them. Total I paid $14. I am not 100% sure if they are the self-cloning Marbled Crayfish but pics online and them having eggs makes me think they are.

Well do they look identical to each other? If they're true marbled crays then they're all clones of each other and should have the same markings if they're near the same size.

Yes, those are marmokrebs, parthenogenic lady crayfish. They have polite disagreements with their dainty claws, instead of murdering each other like red swamp crayfish do. Be mindful of plants, they may nibble at them. :-) The eggs will take a while to hatch, so don't worry if it seems like it is taking a while.

I went back to the store this afternoon and they had at least 15 of them in a tank and nearly every single one had eggs. I think I only spotted one that was not carrying. I almost wanted to buy all of them up. But then I reality set in and realized I had no more space.
