I filled the tank up with water and put de-chlorinator in it, also I put 5 gallons of water from my 55 gallon in it and also squeezed out and soaked my sponge filters out from the 55 into the 125 gallon. Just wondering how long I have to wait to put fish in my 125 now. 3-5 days? a week? Thanks.

Just add them slowly starting in a couple days.

once you have reached your temp and its steady.. id say as soon as 1 day since you added water and bacteria from your 55. i personaly would add another 10 gal from your 55 though. what fish are you keeping?

Malawi Cichlids, thanks for the tip

Water from your established tank isn't going to aid in cycling at all if that's why you're doing it... almost no bacteria exists in your water column.

The beneficial bacteria you squeezed from your sponge filters is also going to die unless it has a food source (ammonia). So if you wait a few days then you are just going to waste that bacteria.

I agree with aclockworkorange. The best thing to do would be to fill up the new tank, bring it up to temp, move the fish to it and simply put the filter from the old tank on it (or all of the media from it in the new filter). Pretty much instantly cycled that way. Or if you wanted to keep the old tank going, then take some of the media from the old filter and put it in the new tank's filter to seed it.
