My mystery snails just hatched. I think I'm counting around 45 right now. I'm gonna leave the sac in there a little longer incase there are any late bloomers. also, my peacock is about to release her fry any day now. Such an exciting week.
Well, the fry are out and they are fast little buggers. I think I've counted around 11, but I could still be wrong. They are so tiny I can't get a picture of them yet but they are eating well. Mom is back in the main tank and doing great too. It's about time to get some weight back on her.
I have no clue how I got the snails to mate. I bought 5 larger ones all at once, and they didn't do anything for the longest time. They were in a community tank back then. Then my OB Peacock was carrying fry and I had to re-arrange my tanks. It was only them, my raphael cat, and the OB female in the 36 gallon. All the sudden, I get a clutch of eggs above the water line a day before the water changes. I'm assuming they started mating because no one was picking on them anymore. Now I have a "rapist" that just won't stop and if I remove it, another starts taking it's place. Oh, yeah and now I have 4 other egg sacks up on the wall. I can't seem to get them to stop.
I'm going to assume a few things if you wanted to get your snails to breed.
-temp between 76-80
-no one to pick on them
-low water line
-very clean tank/water
their food varies from veggie wafers, shrimp pellets and tropical flakes
A few, slightly acceptable, shots of the baby OB Peacock Cichilds. They are still tiny and super fast. I hope to be able to keep updating on them monthly.
Oh, and a few better pictures of Mom and Dad:
It's starting to look like they might try to mate again soon.
