Hey everyone :)
I'm in an apt these days, so I'm keeping Bettas LOL
Years ago, I had the usual run of Oscars, Red Belly piranhas, various Catfish, eels etc. Back in the '70's I spent a coupla years on the Kwajalein Atoll in Micronesia ( Marshal Is) where the garden hoses ran sea water.
Keeping a marine aquarium was therefore ridiculously easy, esp for back in that day. ( Of course it taught me nothing about how to do it properly) ;)
I had various octopi, Stonefish, Lionfish, Morays...the list could go on...
The largest tank I've had was 75gal, perhaps not 'Monster' size, but then
'Monster' has a lot to do with attitude, eh? The state of the art of fish-keeping has advanced enormously in the last 35 years, and for the most part, without my participation. I'm sure I have a whole lot of catching up to do...it's good to be here! :)

Garden hoses running sea water...:headbang2 Although has to suck for your garden.
Thanks Neophyte :)
I'm not sure why we even had garden hoses...wash the car? Besides the being a bad idea on G.P. (with salt water), there were no privately owned motor vehicles...anywhere you wanted to go, you walked, or rode a bike.
If it was raining,(or whatever) you took a bus (free) or called a taxi (free)
Did I mention rain? Kwajalein is a tropical island...only two seasons, a wet season and a dry season. In the dry season, it rained once or twice a week. In the wet season, it rained pretty much once a day. Hmmm...doesn't sound too good, looking at it in type. Be that as it may, Kwajalein is in fact your basic tropical island paradise...very nice :naughty: Bikini clad women on the white sand beaches, palm trees, the whole nine yards
So, the rain took care of the lawn...why did we have garden hoses?
Oh...and speaking of Monsters...there were the Coconut Crabs.
Imagine if you wiil, a Hermit Crab the size of a cocker spaniel...so big that he doesn't need to use a snail shell...his butt is armor plated.
They are classified as Birgus latro. I'd post a link, but most boards frown on that. If you do a search for' Birgus latro on a trash can ' you'll see what I mean. Before you start salivating and aiming to aquire one, I already tried with an exotics dealer and was told they're protected and not available. On the other hand, my own search suggests that as of 2007, they were rated 'DD' ( Data deficient) on the IUCN Red List.
Of course, it's 2009 now...maybe they just became unavailable...my request to the exotics dealer was in 2009. They're the largest terrestrial crab...the one on the trash can is probably 40 y/o to be that big.
Anyway...I digress....find that pic...you'll like it. Thanks for the welcome :)
