Hi guys.

I have a 4x18x22 18 wide tank.

It has 2x 6000lph twin powerheads.

20kg live rock.

A 3 foot sump with trickle tower full of bioballs and a 4000lph return but nothing else in the sump.

T5 HO lighting.

Basically i am getting a bamboo shark, i know that this tank is too small but its all i have space for.

I have an 8x2x2 at my brothers but i cant fit it in my girlfriends dads house.

I need to know what size skimmer too go for since my sump is only 18" deep so the water levels about 15" i like the looks of the v2 skims and i wanted the 1200 but im not sure if it will fit in my tank?

Should i put anything else in the sump with the skimmer? like live rock?

Also i would like to know the average growth rates of these sharks its the black and white ones.

I was going to add a Volitans lionfish in a couple of weeks as a starter Fish im told there hardy is this a good idea?

Thanks in advance.

truth be told im not that good at liter/gallon conversions...or rather any other type of math. I will tell you though that even in the short run 18 or even a 24 is nowhere NEAR wide enough for any size shark. Also yes live rock in the sump is good

I know the tanks not wide enough but i only plan on keeping the Shark in the 8x2 for a while.

I fully understand that ill need an upgrade and im looking for something like a 10x4 or maybe 5.

I am really interested in growth rates to see how long he can stay in each tank.

Okay - are you saying the tank is 48 inches x 18 inches x 22 inches. If so your looking at a 75-80 gallon tank.

Basically that would be okay for a small bamboo shark pup - until it's about 12 inches (about 6 months of age) in length. The 240 gallon (8' x 2' x 2') that would work for the 1st year (until about 18 inches). But after that you will need a larger tank/pond.

Thanks KRJ thats exactly the type of information i was hoping for.

With this new knowledge i have decided to wait until i set up the 8x2 for the Shark pup as six months isnt worth the stress that will be put on the Shark with moving and everything.

Also what is a good footprint for a bamboo, i would like a few other fish like tangs and such.

Ive seen a 6x6x2 and it looked great could that sort of shape work for the shark or would i be better off with a rectangle as i want to keep it in an aquarium rather than a pond.
