At my place of work there used to be a tiger datnoid on display named george. George is no longer on display and the boss is trying to get one of the workers who already has two Dats to take george home. George is about 11 years old, he has hurt his mouth once and had it fixed with a piece of metal which has since been removed, and he is completely black,( in the right light you can see his stripes faintly) he was always kept in completely fresh water. The person who already has two doesnt think it will work and wants me to take george if it doesnt. What is making him black, and what do i need 2 know to look after hime, he is full grown.

Usually datnoids will turn black if they are not comfortable in their environment.

I however have a 14" datnoid that I have owned for 2.5 years that 95% of the time is totally black. This datnoid is not stressed and is one of the most outgoing tigers I have so just because a datnoid is black does not necessarily mean that it is stressed.

In the last two months it has become solid gold and I am totally lost as to why it has had the sudden change in color.

You will usually find that Indonesian tigers will turn black more often whereas Siamese tigers usually stay a solid stable gold color.

If you cannot find an owner for the datnoid...give me a PM. I may be able to take it off your hands. Where are you located in QLD?
