So I never had a saltwater tank in my life. currently have a 20 gal freshwater tank in my shop that i put together just because. mind you it has no fish just looks cool. Back to point, I decided to build a plywood tank it looked fun to do and i like building things so I am going to build a 148.8 gallon tank that i intend to use for saltwater. now I know I want to put together a wet/dry sump underneath the design I have in mind is based loosely off the aqueous proflex my question is I only intend on having a few fish possibly an eel or something of that nature basically want colorful rocks coral plant atmosphere what equipment is necessary from the start and what can wait?

I have a few questions:

Are you wanting to have real coral, or do you just want some fake decorations?

Seeing as how you have a tank already with no fish, do you want the coral/decor to be the main focus of the tank, or do you want to showcase the fish?

As far as what you are looking for, do you want help with the individual equipment, or help choosing a sump?

As far as saltwater equipment goes, a basic list would be a good means of mechanical filtration, bio media, a good protein skimmer, live rock in the aquarium, and enough turnover (between sump return pumps and wave makers) to achieve at least 10X turnover rate. You can also look into macro algae, deep sand bed, carbon reactor, etc. for nitrate reduction.

Hope this helps, but if you want better saltwater advice, a different forum might be a better option since this one focuses mostly on freshwater.

Great info. Unfortunately B badassissimo keeps dredging up old defunct threads. Some are interesting and it'd be nice to hear how theyve continued or haven't and why but I doubt if there hasn' been a post in 2 years from the op there won't be. Sorry guys.
These replies helped me 100%
Please check the last time the op posted if you want help. See if they are still active or start your own thread with the questions you have. That way we will maybe get results.

Lol, I completely missed that. Thanks for pointing that out.

I look forward to the help!

I apologize for confusion and frustration. I have been a part of forums that looked down very much on people not researching threads before posting. I got flagged for rookie mistakes when I had like 10 posts total... I don't even like to lurk there anymore. I wanted to do the justice of researching before starting a thread that had questions that are already answered such as in a sticky. I don't mind starting a thread if it gets me answers and makes my wife's dream come true.

You see how many people ask the same question over and over and still get answers? Very few people even get harassed about it let alone kicked off. I'd say if it's a actual build question like what epoxy, wood, screws, glass to use then that info is already out there in the sticky on plywood tanks. All I can say is start the thread ask the questions and make sure you have your info straight too. People are going to ask. Go!
