I have a tank with oscars and a jd and some other cichlids.
I have all kinds of different cichlid food, hikari cichlid staple, hikari cichlid gold, frozen bloodworms, frozen beefheart, tubifex, cichlid mini granules.
But they don't really care for any of those but the bloodworms. They won't touch tubifex, and wont eat any of the hikari unless its all I feed them at the end of the day.

But they go absolutely crazy over tetra flakes, and reptomin floating food sticks. they start swimming into the glass frantically as soon as they see the reptomin container. I hold the food sticks over the tank( about 2 inches) and they'll jump up to get them. (they are all juveniles) I was wondering if anyone else has tried reptile food for their cichlids.

nope. you probably shouldnt do that. theres a reason theres food for fish and food for reptiles but i dont know what reptile food consists of. keep us updated on how it works out for ya.

lol well I've heard oscars have trouble with low vitamin c and its enriched with it. And I've been feeding it to my killi fish for about year but he's not a cichlid.

my lmb has been on a staple diet of reptomin for well over 6months now and is doing great, he even perfers it over feeders

Yeah in a way I agree with japes. But then again I am of the ''If it aint broke dont fix it'' train of thought.....

Ah I see. I give the oscars like 4 or 5 a day. Plus they get bloodworms and beefheart. Brine shrimp on tuesday and feeders on friday. Well once all the reptomin are gone I probably won't get anymore.

I mix pellets of Hikari, wardleys, omega one etc etc ina resealable tub and feed my fish a mix everyday, they love it for the most part. But lately for the bigger fish I have got some Hikari Koi food- the bigger ones love it! I figure it cannot hurt given once or twice a week. Basically like a treat, I may look into reptomin as well lol, seems like you guys that use it in the thread are having good results! And I think variety for my fish is key to good health. And now with spring around catching fresh worms after rain and washing them is something I do on occasion for my fish.
