:irked: As some of you know, I work for or more with a chain of LFS (I Can't reveal the name at this time) and do Aquarium Serviceing for a living.
I got a call from one of the store managers, they had my client there wanting to buy some corals for her tank.

She has a 45 bow front saltwater setup with sump, I know she has been really jumping the gun with trying to get this thing stocked. I keep telling her to wait and give it time to get set before adding fish or any form of live stock to the tank. Well yesterday she went to one of the other chains and picked fish up, I knew this only because I got a call looking for some parts to make the sump a little quietier.

So I let the first manager know that she JUST put in her new fish and that I don't think its a good idea to put corals in at this time anyways. And that the tank has only been CYCLING for only 3 weeks:nilly: . I was not as conserned over the fish going in because last week I tested her water and it was pretty much set and ready but I still wanted to give it a full month before adding fish. This Jack A** wanted to give her the corals anyways and when they died take the heat for it then! I couldn't believe it! For someone who should really be more about the health of the fish and educating those who need to be educated he was taking full out advantage with the whole thing. In the inital set up he sold her things that she would have no idea on how to use if she WAS doing the maintinance herself.
It really pisses me off to see people getting ripped off when it is totally unwarrented. Not that it ever is but... I am so pissed off right now.:irked:

I F****** hate people like that!

I used to work for a large petchain in the fish department. I too bore witness to customers wanting to stock tanks too soon, overstock tanks, and buy incompatible fish. Its sad owners/managers of these stores care little about the welfare of the livestock they sell.

The more I am reading up on this as a hobby the more I notice stuff like this I am going to start to make a conscious effort to never buy from these chains at least as far as livestock goes. They are more about the buck then anything else selling Pangasius to people who like me do not have the means to keep up with them!

At one point I was ******* enough to want to keep Bala Sharks I went to the store and bought 3 of them for in a lowly 20g tank! Then I started to do research and found out how large they get and that they are complete speed kings and realized I needed to get a larger tank alas all but one died and by the time I got the 55 to ease his life a bit he too was dying! Never again will I buy something that I cannot take care of! These guys do that everyday and I am constantly watching what people are browsing for and listening to the sales pitches, if I ever hear them trying to sell off pangasius Cats to a home with only a 55g tank I am going to be an ******* and set it straight that is seriously irresponsible and should be illegal.

Seems to me that this customer knew it was too early (from you telling her) but went to buy what she wanted from somewhere else anyway. If the other shops told her and she STILL wanted to buy then whose fault is that? The customer is always right in retail even if they are not reasonable. I dont know if you can always blame the shops.

Not only the manager, but the customer is silly too. People don't want what's best, they want whats fast.
