I just want to confirm a few things about a Datnoides microlepis "Siamese Tigerfish"...

I read they get 18" I was wondering how big they get actually get in an aquarium?

I have read they are brackish and also read they are freshwater which ones are they?

and would one work with my current fish?

Current Fish:

1x Leopard Ctenopoma (my newest one I guess was sick and didnt make it so I am down to one for now)
1x Angel
3x RH
6x Apollo sharks (I got six expecting casualties)
1x Common Pleco

what do you guys think? and what are the facts about them? and how fast do they grow?

Some are fresh, some are brackish. They can get 18", but it would take forever. They would be alright with your mix, depending on size. However, certain species are more aggressive than others. The best way to gather the info about them is to just read through the treads and absorb as much info as you can, because even though they're all dats, they have subtle (and some not so subtle) differences that will definitely influence your purchase.

As far as the ST that you specifically asked about, they're fresh water, get large, grow slow, and are expensive.

I am just asking about that because my LFS has one instock now for $80cad but I might be able to talk them down since it has been sitting there for almos a month

"Siamese Tigerfish" - is a Wide Bar
"Datnoides microlepis" - is an Indo

Not sure which one you really meant.

Indos MAY get about 18, but wide bars MAY get up to 24 (both are fresh water)

(AT's and NG's are the only ones that live in brackish waters in there natural habitat)

All are very slow growers

Get a pic first. LFS labels on dats are usually inaccurate.

Edit: I missed that you said microlepis, as mentioned above, that's not a ST. Might want to snap a fish. I'm betting it's an Indo.

Indo:)

ok thanks for the info guys

I'd get rid of the angel and common pleco and then get one.

Well the pleco used to beat up my Oscar once he realized that my oscar didnt like getting hit by his tail the pleco is actually my biggest fish atm, so I think he can can handle him self,he is just shy if 12"TL. the Dat is only about 4-5" atm.

as for the angel the only way it can come out of the tank without me getting in a lot of trouble is if it gets murdered...:nilly:

I have read that the indo dats normally get around 10"s though bigger is always a possibility which isnt a problem.
