Somewere in the world
Im just about to go to work again and i thought id share a few funny and annoying experiences that ive encountered working where I work... feel free to share any of your stories as well!

1. Working when people come in with their 3-4 kids asking to get a fish, they pick out clown loaches or bichirs because the "kids love them" and when asked what tank they are going in they respond "In this bowl I bought at michaels." I tell them they need to spend the moeny for a real tank and heater if they plan on keeping these fish and when I show them the 50 dollar price tag on a heater they exclaim "who would pay that much money for a fish thats just going to die!" Some people should just not be in the hobby.

2. Another funny story is the incident where a man and his son came in to my work. He walks up to me and asks "Do you have any Nemo Fish?" his 8 year old daughter looks at him and says "Dad its called a clownfish!" I say yes and as im showing them to him he says "These are freshwater, right?" I look at him and say "Havent you seen finding Nemo?" he looks back at me and says "Oh yea" and walks out of the store.

Hmm.. I dont know if those are funny, but have LOTS of stories to when working at a LFS... Thanks for sharing, some of the most common behaviors!

First story is funny, but sad.. Second story is awesome.. hahahah

I was in walmart today, and I ALWAYS have to peek at the fish, I don't know why. There was an employee training a new employee and teaching him about some of the chiclids they had..

"This is an oscar.. Do you know why its called that? Because it eats other fish!!"
"Do you want to feed the oscar?"

To everyone that works at a fish (or even general pet) store...Are you heavy drinkers? How do you deal with this stuff on a daily basis? I would never have the patience to work at a LFS.

So, in story one, were you able to talk the people out of buying the fish?

My brother is the manager at a wal mart that has fish in it and one time he had to catch some fish for some people, well hes real dumb.He fills the bag up with tap water thats cold and puts the fish in it, the people had no idea and didnt say anything i guess. So the fish died before the people got out of the store and got a refund lol...pretty sad

Of course, at this point i wouldn't let them buy anything, i can tell the kind of people whoa re going to not care for the fish at all.

And i guess i should restate the title, seeing as how the first story isnt really "Funny" So the new title isss.... "Funny and sad stories"

I quit the job at my LFS a few years ago... Couldnt handle the stupidity and the rude customers telling me whats right..

To all of you who work at LFS's and are crying about the stupidity of the customers, think back to when you first started in this hobby, you were probably just as stupid about caring for fish. Our job (yes I work pt at a LFS) is to educate these people so that their experience with this hobby is a good one, and not a lot of wasted time and money and dead fish. So instead of getting on your soapbox and acting like a know-it-all ass you should spend time with these people and educate them. That's the only way that we can assure that this hobby we've all come to love so much will be around for our kids and their kids and so on.
