hey guys, i have 2 baby FH's, still around 2-3inch. When i first got them from the LFS they were of coarse swimming happily (for the most part) with all the other little fellas with them, but when i brought them home i put them in their own separate tanks. BUt then 2 weeks later moved them into a bigger 4x2x2, but they must of already forgotten eachother and started hammering into one another as FH do.. So i decided to put a divider between them. BUt they continued to meet eachother at the glass constantly trying to go at it. (when i say constantly i meaaan CONSTANTLY)
I was just wondering if this was bad ?
Like, will this cause them any harmful stress, its still only been a few hours since i put the divider between them but they really dont seem to be giving it a rest.
(btw i do understand this is normal FH behaviour, i was just wondering on the stress department).

So please get back to me
Any Helps good help ! thanking you in advance!

Mikey :)

Not really stress in a harmful way where they would die or anything. But having them side by side where they can see each other in the same tank may affect what they look like though.

I've never really kept a flowerhorn by itself in a tank.. i know its suppose to make them better looking...

They should be okie.. but have something in between the two tank so that they can't see each other..

Ahh thanks heaps guys.. yeah i've actually noticed that already.. i thought they were were dull cause i just moved them.. but then until now their colours still havnt came back to full potential.. i dont really know how to make it so they can't see eachother though.. i might jsut separate them again.. i really wish i could keep them together, as in swimming without a divider.. but its never going to happen.. Thanks again guys, appreciate you're help.

are they male or female or a pair????
try placing a few convicts in with them.....it worked for me... the cons are tough and fast.... they recover quickly too....

If the constant aggression is bothering you, perhaps you could put another divider in the tank, separating the two by say 6" (never tried it but it should work). This way they won't be next to each other. I am assuming this is a grow out tank.

I really have no idea what sex they are, like ive read heaps of threads here about how to sex them and what not.. and i believed in venting thing i thought that was most effective cause it worked out with my Oscars, but i can't seem to use this method with my other fish i dont know why lol..

I'm heaps noob with FH jsut started out actually, I've always been heaps interested in them, partly cause of my cousin who has one and not even sucking up or nothing but cause of this site.. the fish people have hear are really beautiful and top of the range. I got my two little guys about 3 weeks ago and they're still small, i hardly see FH in my area so when i they were avaliable i pounced (couldn't help myself really) the thing is.. im sure my little guys don't (even perhaps won't) match the standards and the quality of the ones ive seen here but i still love them lol and i dont have the money to spend on the pricey ones.. cause down here they (im from sydney btw) I saw a Kamfa not even the quality of the ones here going for $450 Aussie, they said it was Thailand import so maybe thats why.. but yeah, one day (SORRY ABOUT THE LIFE STORY haha)

oh yeah i also sold all my convicts, i used to breed them, i believe it when people say they are the easiest fish to breed. but the most interesting thing was, when my main female died, my daddy convict hooked up with my texas female and i got some halfies. i only kept one, hes about 5inch now.

(SORRY ABOUT THE LIFE STORY haha)

OH YEAH! nearly forgot I just wanted to say thank you for all you guys who replied.

And Carcrazy, yeah its just a growout while they're still youngns, either way yeah i decided to just separate them in the end, i wasnt really to worried about the aggression, its sort of why i love cichlids, coolest fish.
But i realised their colours were just not getting better, so i think its for the best.
thanks again guys :)

Hey Mikeeyy,

I'm from Sydney as well, i'm knew to the hobby myself and trying to find as much info as i can from the Gurus on this forum and others... I also have similar baby FH, i have 5 actually and after a month i have kept them, i believe 2 of them have paired as they are always chasing the other 3.
Anyways, don't mean to hijack your thread, but i will be posting my baby FH and also the Breeding parents from the store. The Breeding parent are called "Golden Flowerhorn" but they dont look nothing like the parents.
Good luck with your FH and keep us posted with pics every month ;)
