State of chaos
Just for the heck of it, I was reading the regs on animals in NYC, and it says that all Iguanids are illegal, "Including but not limited to, Green Iguana". Doesn't that technically mean that Anoles are illegal?

Yep. I would assume what they had in mind are "iguanas", so figure Iguana, Ctenosaura, Cyclura sp., and certainly the Galapagos and Fiji igs which I think violate federal law anyway...but yes, if you've got a collared lizard or emerald swift lose it, pronto ;)

I actually thought anoles had been reclassified out of Iguanidae recently, but admittedly I'm rather an idiot when it comes to classification.

They are a species from the Iguanidae family, so yes.

:eek:Hide me! HIDE ME!!

But seriously... that's weird... since the pet store around the corner sells Cuban Browns and Carolina Greens for 4 bucks a pop, but refuses to sell Thamnophis out of fear that they're illegal:screwy:

Swifts are illegal? In the last 2 months, they are in every pet store:confused:

Theoretically, yes. And chuckwallas, desert iguanas, conehead lizards, basilisks...Iguanidae is a huuuuuge family.

I think the law is referring to the Genus, not the family. if that is the case then Anoles and everything would be legal. I am not sure how to interpret it or how it is even written but this is what it sounds like would make the most sense to me.
