Has anyone ever crossbred piranhas?

not to my knowledge. people usually don't have good luck with keeping multiple sp. in the same tank. there are a fe wbut not to many.

So I would have to say there are not Pirahna hybrids.

just think Piranha hybrid would be cool like a Rbp x Piraya and stuff

pure elong is the best :D why mess it up? sure, it would be cool to have an elong with colors, but all P's are fine the way they are :)

/end discussion about if i like hybrids or not...that wasn't what he asked

ha yup, Rhom x piraya would be a giant

I dont think it would be even possible to breed a Serra with a Pygo, completely different genus.

Whether or not species within the Serra or species with the Pygo could crossbreed within their own genus is beyond me. Maybe they have and thats how all the different Serra species are now alive.

I'm not so sure. I'm no expert, but cichlid's from different geni are bred together to form the blood parrot and the flowerhorn. All Ps are characins and therefore similiar genetically.

Piranhas don't do well with other species of piranhas, but you could hand strip the fish, fertilize the eggs, and then hatch the eggs in a separate tank. It might work. I'd have to know more about piranha genetics to say for sure but it might work....
