I was just playing with some thoughts and was wondering how big of a tank 15-18 polys would take (they would all be upper jaws)

I have at least that off the top of my head in a 150 , I have an 80 almost ready to spread them out a bit , quiet a few are not near full grown, I would say a 150 long would be ok maybe a175, im sure other people will say u need much bigger, but my tank looks some what active but they arnt crammed in there laying on top of each other

I would say 150-180 is perfect. Your biggest challenge will be battling water quality issues if you don't have adequate filtration. You will want to run the biggest sump possible to increase your water volume.

Agreed with above. 180 is about right. The great thing about polys is that regardless how big they are, they don't have the same impact on water quality as a more active fish the same size would.

Yeah for that many I would probably get a couple eheims maybe even three

you will need more than 2 Eheims. I am currently running 2 Eheims 2028 with a emp 400 and a few powerheads on a weekly water change schedule. I have to watch my feeding because sometimes the filters can't keep up. Bichirs actually will eat more and produce more waste as it gain in size.

So what it sounds like is the tank size isn't as much the worry (of course i'm not gonna get a small tank) but the filtration is more of a need?
