hi,im getting some festae at last, there about one to two inchs, about 20 of them, now to all the festae lovers is there anything i should look for,im going to get four, ahhhh at last:headbang2

at that size there is no way to tell sex, so i would just get as many as you can that look the healthiest, they are really rare in ireland right? if thats the case you want to get as many as possible so you can have a male and 2 females (spare female will have to end up going in a different tank but i know i would feel better having a spare in case the male decided he didnt like his mate anymore she wont really stand a chance, and for some reason with festae there is a disproportionate number of males to females so if your trying to get a pair or a single female you might have to get more than 4 (though you may get lucky and maybe gender ratio is different in ireland as it has to do with the pH the eggs are hatched in) GOOD LUCK!!

Are they listed as Red Terrors or festae? If labeled as red terrors there is a good chance they might be mayan cichlids.

well, if its possible, take pics of them and post them here to make sure they are festae and not Uros, which is a common mix up at fish stores.

The festae fry/growouts should look like these below.

I included a crappy pic of a Uro so you could see the tail spot is bigger than the festae.

I bought 3 broods of 7 in order to get 1 Dom. Male and 1 Dom. female that aren't brother and sister. I've certainly seen many posts on this site where siblings pair off.
Might just want to buy a bunch and see what happens. The only thing I can think of "what to look out for" is listed in the above post - the position of the eyespot on the tail - Festaes cover the upper portion wheres as mayans are dead smack in the middle.

thanks guys,im going to see them tomorrow,im sure i can tell now the difference between the uro,s and festae,i will post a pic as soon as i can,and there labled festae,i have my fingers crossed!
