My 3 approx 1" ebjd juvies are not eating nls flakes. I know this is not what they were raised on so what should I do? I think they are to small to starve for 2-3 days then try again. Should I just continue to try twice a day until they eat it? I don't want to feed bloodworms before they eat it because I don't want them to be stuck on bloodworms only. Any info is appreciated.

Thats strange, I never had issues feeding NLS flakes to my juvy ebjd's. They could be stressed of the new environment. Water conditions?

What were they raised on? NLS flakes are probably the best flakes you could feed them as it contains extra garlic, but, you can try Zoo med's Spirulina 20 flakes. More of a veggie diet that will also really bring out their colors.

Starving a few days won't hurt, but definitely do not feed them blood worms. Not only are the blues too small but that will hurt their digestive systems and could result in bloat/sbd.

As far as I'm aware they were raised mostly on blackworms and bloodworms. pH is 6.6. Ammonia is either 0 or .25ppm, nitrite is 0, nitrate is between 0 and 5 ppm. I don't think the ammonia should be .25ppm seeing as this tank has been established for a long time and I did a 30% water change today with prime, I think I just have trouble comparing the tube to the chart. These tests were all with the API master test kit and from what I can tell it seems to be a common problem differentiating between 0 and .25ppm for ammonia. I think it's just really hard to color match.

Flakes should be fine for now. And they should eat shortly.
But remove any uneaten food from the bottom.
If you can find the baby bloodworms, try them.
The regular ones are too big.

Still no change as of this morning, tried feeding they sucked em in and spit em out. So I did another small water change to remove all the uneaten food. Will try again tonight and see what happens.

I've never had any problems with any of my fishes not eating. Bloodworm is what I feed all my new arrivals, cus after transport stress, they gobble them up. Then they still eat everything else. As well as all my frys, soon as I see them start "pecking" attack on fry dust, I throw in blood worms.

I feel they would have no problem eating bloodworms but they are approx 1" I'm afraid of causing bloat on them and possibly causing them not to want to eat anything else.

Maybe they don't like the taste, lol. NLS smells bad so I began to wonder how it tasted...crushed some pellets up and dropped them in my girlfriend's mouth while the was sleeping. She doesn't like them.

Haha but in all seriousness it has always taken me a little while to get my fish on NLS. I don't know why, but it is worth it every time. I would just keep trying, they will take them eventually.

Lol, I literally have never had a problem getting my fish on NLS so it's a first for me. I'll keep at it for the next few days.

My juvies took a couple days to like flake food but chow it down now. I think it is just an aquired taste type of deal...
