Juvenile Green Terror Color

I purchased a juvenile Gold Saum Green Terror yesterday about 1 1/2"- 2" long. The color on him or her is a little drab. Is this common with juvenile terror's? Do they get more colorful as they mature? Thanks

I all depends I have had some really colorfull at 3" and some late bloomers that color up at 6"... It really depends on many things water quality, food, tankmates, and hierarchy... but the most important is genes...
heres a pic of a little male that sadly died.. he was going to be a stunner... he is 3" in this pic

yes they really dont color up until they get a bit bigger, pretty much all cichlids start out very drab and then color up as they mature, like stated the most important factor is genes but food and water quality also play a very important role in how a fish develops

Most CA/SA cichlids don't color up completely until they are mature... some of them show better color and shapes when juvenile but this is still not their adult coloration, and it changes a lot depending on their mood. Those impressive show GT you see out there are years old. Sex, diet, genes and water quality all play an important part, but you won't see the true results until he's fully developed.

Mine was basically all grey when i got him. One year later now he is stunning and I swear he glows

yeah looks normal give it a little while to grow and color up some more and it should look a lot better

Seems that they start to show some color right around the 3" mark, still will show better color when bigger but this is when they get out of their little brown "ugly" stage

^^^ That GT in the picture is basically a fry lol... there's no way you can compare it to the adult green terrors you see here. Give him 6 months and he'll become one.
