Firstly I just want to point out that I recognise these fish are both juvenile so it would be very difficult (if not impossible) to be certain on what they are but any input would be appreciated.

I'm not convinced either are what they were labelled as but I have limited experience in these fish so could be wrong.

Fish 1 - brought as a midas (notice the larger lips and pointier face)

Fish 2 - brought as a red devil (larger eyes, smaller lips and orange/red under the gills at a smaller size)

At this point, they do both look like Amphilophines to me.
If bought in a LFS the difference between a midas and a red devil is a question of just a few chromosomes, so until they reach over 5 " trying to tell the difference would be nearly impossible.
And unless the seller could provide some sort of provenance to prove what they say they are, even at 5"-10" it will nearly impossible.
Below is an young Amphilophus sp "Amarillo", very similar to yours.

It grew into this at about 6-8"

Great, thanks for coming back to me. I suppose it's just a waiting game to see what they are. Both are great fish even at this young age - full of character already!
