I recently purchased six jaguar cichlids (they're all about 3" now) in the hopes I would get a pair out of the group and so far the most dominate individual is the only one that is easily distinguishable from the rest and I'm leaning towards female from what I've read in books and online but would appreciate anyone's opinion as I've been almost out of the "monster cichlid" game for a little while only keeping datnoids the last year or so

Thanks in advance.

Looks female from the batting, but put of a group of 6 you are bound to get a pair. Keep heavy water changes up, lots of food and you should have some action!

In a group of 6, the bigger, more dominant ones will be darker and have a more pronounced pattern, the smaller ones will probably be faded, more of an overall brown/tan color. try getting this one in a tank of its own for about a week, don't let it see other fish, this will allow its true colors to emerge. If I had to choose, Id say that's a female.
