At A LFS he just got three new Shovel Nose Cats, but he isn't 100% certain of their species. I really want to get a shovel nose (preferably a LSN), and I'm fairly certain that these are what he has. Even as juveniles the Shovelnose in general is fairly distinct by their mouth/face/etc. Their color pattern most closely resembles the LSN but I was wondering if there is anything else that resembles a LSN as a juvenile. Any Tiger variety would have spots already (I think) which these three do not.

Here's a picture similiar to what they look like in their color patterning. I know this picture is a LSN, but does any other variety look like this as a juvenile? The three he has all each about 5-8" total length. Thanks to all the experts.

w/out an exact picture of the fish can't say. The only other species that I can think of they could be is a TSN. or hybrid TSN. The TSN's ime have more of a wider, shorter nose on them. and their fins have more substance to them generally. The eyes are also more towards the top of the head.

Thanks. Color pattern wise the LSN is fairly plain, without any spots or striping? Nothing else would resemble this? If this juvenile is without any spots or stripes more than likely it's an LSN correct?

they are pretty distinct. if it looks like a lima then it probably is. the shovelnose and the solid, thick black lateral line are obvious indicators. no TSN species has the same lateral marking.
