Juvenile Rio Magdalena Umbees

Hello group I need your help.I recently purchase 2 juvenile Rio’s from Jeff Rapps and I was wondering if you all could give me a idea on are they male or female there

Congratulations on your new fish. How big are they. I think there a little to young to sex yet. Umbee's can be difficult to sex untill they reach sexual maturity, witch is normally between 5inch and 6inch sometimes even bigger. These pics are of 6Inch fish just starting to change colour (male-female) Hope there helpful to you.

The young male in that pic as now over 20inch. Hear he is now with a couple of my grandchildren.

May I ask what’s the best diet and foods for these guys going forward?

Your best sticking to a good quality pellet as a main diet. Then offering treat foods, say once a week. I use earth worms mussels prawns and I'v started using rainbow trout alot. If your umbee starts to refuse pellets then that's a good indication that your over doing it with the treats. I've had this with my fussy Dovii. I just starve him till he takes pellets again. That's how I do it. Others may have better suggestion.
