hi everyone,

First post here.
My juvenile green severum has what looks to be like a lesion on its head however I’m not sure if it’s just a couple of scales missing or something more sinister I.e. columnaris.

Is anyone able to help ?

Welcome aboard

How long has the Severum been in that condition?

What are your water parameters?
Are there any tankmates?

Columnaris will look like that in the beginning. Have to answer some questions that tlindsey tlindsey posted cause it’s important.

Tank parameters:

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 5
PH: 7.2
Temp: 26deg C

Tankmates: 4x juvenile firemouth, 1x EBA, 1x synodontis eupterus. Tank is 110 gallons.

Is it acting normal? Is it eating? Think it’s just scales missing. Would add some salt 1tsp per gallon. Get some methylene blue and dab the area with a qtip soaked in MB. If no MB then try qtip dipped in hydrogen peroxide. Increase water changes to twice a week. Update as it goes.

Behaviour wise he is still the same - quite cryptic but will hang out with the firemouth near the substrate.

He isn’t eating as much as normal, showing a bit of disinterest in food.

Salt wise - 1tsp per gallon is gonna be ~500g of salt - not going to cause any issues with salinity or affect tank mates? Or will the 2 x weekly change help to reduce effect?

Do you have an extra aquarium to treat the Severum seperately from main aquarium? You would have to cut the dosage because of the Synodontis.

I just assume it skin scrape with fungus. Columanris can look like this but kills very quickly. Salt and frequent water changes can get rid of fungus esp with MB or hydrogen peroxide applied to the area. Can just dip the fish in a bucket with 1g water and methylene blue for about 15-30min and return back to the main tank.
