my wife just got me a 2 1/2" bgk and im putting a 20 long in our bedroom to grow it out in, what would be suitable non aggressive tankmates? angelfish? silver dollars? anything else?

let him be accustomed to the tank after a week or so,as i have observed they really like very clean water, you can put neons, rummy noses etc... small fishes...but as they grow the BGK may peck the eyes of a smaller fishes.,they love to hide and come out at night till dawn,.BGK is a beautifull fish i have seen a person who owns it for years and its like less than 2 feet it just layed down sideways as if it cannot swim its own weight

they would be juvi sd's and angels, i picked up a couple sengal bichir's for tank mates, still might get a shoal of sd's just because they are always active.

anything that doesnt outgrow the tank obviously, but yeah, some neons, possible mollies, anything really

outgrow the tank all it wants, the bgk will get 18" so a 20 long is kind of small for it. just a grow out tank. it just looks really sparse with a single fish in it so i had to add something else.

depends on what kind of fish you're interested in for the future. If you have the space severum's are nice, so aren't bosemani rainbows.

give the tank a theme, make it a biotope, combining it with fishes like senegals which is from africa doesnt look natural..just my idea:)

but if you are still exploring and wanting to try different fishes go ahead,I was once like that hehehe

Angels, Discus, SD, Polys, Rainbow Fish, Giant Danio, Gouramis, etc. Anything larger than it's mouth and not too aggressive.
