I recently acquired a juvi male dovii 3 to 4 inch. It's in a bare bottom growout tank.
It's going nuts in the tank. Looks at the reflection of itself and trying to attack that reflection.

Any ideas to calm him down a bit .

Can you tape some black backing on? means you could remove it easily as needed.

If it's the bottom of the tank, could try a very very thin layer of sand, he'd still attack the bottom intermittently; but for the most part it would break the reflection

Drop you temp to 78. Maybe give it some cover. Its not going to stop trying to attack the reflection until tje reflection is no longer there really though.

That's one angry dovi!

Water is 77 to 78 ATM. Tank is all covers and kind of secluded. As convict360 convict360 said I am thinking of adding a very fine layer of sand

If you really like "bare bottom" tanks, one of my very favorite tanks has slate tile on the bottom. Have it in my 55 right now (though I didn't measure and one tile is elevated cuz it's 1/8 of an inch too long) and plan to do it in all my future tanks. Very easy to keep clean and has a nice look to it. I'll post a pic of mine here in a min.
