Juvi JD in barebottom?

I took the sand out of my tank because I hated it. Will my JD's be fine in there or do I need some kind of substrate?

55 gal. It is just for a growout. I have 5 1.5-2" ones.

They're certainly not going to die from lack of substrate, and its not really an important part of their behaviour (as it is with Geophagus, for example) so you should be fine.

They will be fine. Throw in some pvc piping for them to hide when they need.
