So one of the LFS has some Juvi Orino for 60 bucks and they are about 2 inches. Is this a good deal? Also how do you tell the difference between a Orino and Ocellaris? The LFS has both pbass and are in differnt tanks but they look exactly the same

i dunno if its a good price where you are.
but i would pay that since i can never find them here.
it all depends how much YOU are willing to pay for a fish.
get some pics.
IDing little bass can be hard.

:iagree: with channa, I'd pay that here in aus, dunno about where you are though..

At 2" I think it is going to be rough to tell the difference.. 60.00 for an Orino sounds fair to me for Petstore price ;) The problem with petstores is sometimes it is later if it turns into an Ocellie or a Mono.. you will likely be mad :)

At that size is very hard.. but still what are chances of getting pics?

seems a little high for USA prices.. but i don't know how easy it is to find peacock bass in CO. or what part of CO you're in. might be easier to find peacock bass in a big city like Denver compared to other parts of the state.

so i would say if you're in Denver those prices are a bit high, if you're in the boonies the prices may be high, but may be worth it because it costs the extra to get the fish to where you are.

and Orinos and Ocellaris look amazingly similar in a stressful LFS situation. the only way to really tell them apart is to grow them up and let them get settled in and comfy so they show all their beautiful colors. then the differences are very obvious.

That is a fair price out here in the land of the Snow. By chance are you talking about the Orino's at Fish Palace? If so they prices went up after the Owner changed hands but if I were you I would grab them if you really want them. And I think he has Orino and Tem's. ( I am in the every weekend) It was not that easy to find any P Bass last year any where in the city (except for Killer Mike's) but this year Fish Palace and Fish Den have really been doing a great job on getting them in. But I am affraid the price is the same at both location's and these seem to be the only to places to really find them. I think there charging more for the Orino's because they were harder to get in but lately there popping up every where in this little CITY know as Dnever/Aurora. As you know we don't have very many LFS. And you will never find these type Cichlids at the chain LFS ( PetCo & PetSmart) So yes I would get it for sure if your serious about wanting one.

I agree with HCR. I'm pretty sure you're talking about Fish Palace. That is where I got mine and about how much I paid. Their prices are pretty high, but it's by far the best LFS for FW fish in the Denver area. I've been to all of them. You should ask them where they were collected because they're supposed to be WC (I forgot to ask). Mine is over 3" now, but it's still hard to tell for sure that it's an Orino. If it turns out to not be an Orino, I'm sure Andy (FP owner) will do something about it.

Yup im talking about the ones at Fish Palace. I got a Tem there but for some reason my friends tank started having a bunch of ick and everything died in his tank. He tried treating it but no luck. His water was perfect ph at 6.5, nitrite at 0, ammonia at 0, and temp at 82 degrees. The only thing is that i dont want to buy it and it turns out to be a ocell.

should be at least 87 for cichla, esp babies. They're really prone to ick at temps below that. Mine is starting to show some colors. I'm going to try and get some more pix tonight, but I did post one in channarox' ID thread.

Ask Andy where they were collected and what happens if they turn out to not be Orinos.
