For best colours and wellbeing I would suggest a varied diet but try to feed them cichlid pellets as their staple food. They will also readily eat bloodworms, brineshrimp and will relish the occasional live food as a treat. Be sure that any feeders you give to them are free from parasites and are fed properly themselves. Oscars as a general rule will eat anything that will fit in their BIG mouths and are very greedy so best to feed them mostly a commercial staple food that is relatively cheap compaired to always buying feeders, although you can always setup a small tank to breed feeders so you can be sure they are healthy.I only recently accuired two juveniles myself, also my first time keeping oscars and so far so good. a varied diet is very important with Os, start with a good staple pellet (i fed my Os hikari gold when i had them) and then mix it up with worms, crickets and frozen foods

I have been feeding them Hikari Gold and Oscar really likes it( its the medium pellet) but Ozzy who is a little smaller doesnt like them. I wonder if it's because its to big for him. And I got them from the LFS and they were feeding them only feeders. So when i got them last week I had to feed them feeders for the first two days thats all they would eat. Now Oscar is eating Hikari Gold pretty well and Ozzy is eating Cichlid attack because its a smaller pellet(is that ok to feed him). And i was wondering about feeding them crickets didnt know if i could or not.

iv never fed cichlid attack but im sure its fine, hikari does sell smaller pellets though if thats the problem though i would go ahead and use up the pellets you already have and by then he will probably be big enough to eat the med pellets lol and yeah crickets are fine to feed i actually prefer to feed my cichlids crickets and earthworms over feeder fish because if you dont quarantine them or breed your own there is a very high risk of them giving parasites to your Os, and if they are the feeder goldfish then they are not very nutritous either and are very fatty it seems like your off to a good start though, just make sure to keep up with varied diet and clean water so that your Os dont get HITH (these are both thought to be factors in getting HITH)
Yea I think he will be big enough to eat them pretty soon. I looked for the smaller pellets today and they were out of stock every just my luck lol. Yea i read about HITH also and think the LFS has an O with HITH actually. They guy that brought him to the LFS the other day kept him in a ten gallon. I think he is close to 9 inches. I wanted to get him but like i said im pretty sure he has HITH. How often should i do water changes.

and waterchange schedule depends on the size of your tank and your filters, Os are very dirty fish, in good size tank with good filter i would do 30% waterchange weekly if theyr by themselves more if not, in smaller tank i would do 50% weekly, the more waterchanges or bigger waterchanges you do the faster your little Os will grow and clean water will also help prevent HITH, thats really sad to hear about that poor O at the lfs it happens alot though people see the cute little Os in the tanks coming to the front to say hi and buy before they know how big they get

Yea i wish i could save the O and the LFS but i dont know if i could he didnt look good today.. plus i dont have an extra tank and dont want the rest of my babies sick..
