Here are the gars I got from Aquascape over the weekend. They're totally gorgeous (these pics really don't do justice to how yellow and feathery their tails are) and are happily eating and fattening up. They're in a 20g for now, but I'm going to move them to a 30 in about a week and a half for them to grow out a bit. I'd say they're 3.5''-4''.

Question is this: they seem to have no problem eating my baby mix (melted bloodworm cubes with vitamin solution and dried krill), but how much should I be feeding them and how frequently? I was thinking they seem like they'd eat a cube a day or so. Debating adding some frozen brine shrimp but think they might just get ignored and make a mess.

Nice looking gators. Gonna be monsters in no time.

At this size it is recomended to porvide them with constant access to feeders. Wait till they pack on some size before converting to non live foods.

I generally try to avoid feeders due to the health risks they carry and the fact that chasing live fish increases aggression. Is there a reason I'd *have* to give them feeders? They already like the frozen stuff.

From the stickies, which have lots of other information as well.

Gars between 2" and 8":
Feed item:
Feeders that the gar can swallow easily

Feeding frequency:
The important thing at this stage is for the gars to have access to food ad libitum (as and when one wishes). This is because small gars put a lot of energy into somatic growth in order to put on size quickly (in the wild, this is to reduce chances of predation and to cope with winter). So unless you have the time to feed several times during the day, it really is easier to simply leave feeders for the fishes to feed ad libitum.
