juvie umbee, possible monster in the making

Well, as some of you know, my largest umbee died several weeks ago. I am growing out 5 juvies right now.

It looks like the largest (4.5" TL) may be a male. Note, I say maybe. Still too young, but he's got it goin' on with the dorsal and anal extensions plus the colors.

One of my strip lights are out so the pics are a little blurry, but the largest umbee's extensions keep on growing.

Shadow? Not shadow? Has not been a good year for "famous" fish....
That new "male" is looking great! I have ~20 growouts/fry myself....

Yes, Shadow passed away. Another one of those strange infections that only seem to affect umbees. He became lethargic, stopped eating, swimbladder, then developed around 5 or 6 pimple like lesions on his caudal fin. Other than that, no other signs visible. Treated with furanase, maracyn and maracyn II but to no avail.

I'm not 100% the little guy is male, but I would gamble on it.

Shadow died? Wow that really really sucks. What happened? That was the nicest Umbee I've ever seen. Greenterra's GT, Jumbo, and your umbee, have all died. This sucks.

Sorry about the loss of your monster umbee. Hope your guy is truly a male, so that you will have an F1 male. Would love to see that.
