About a month ago I loaded the bottom two trays of my fx6 with some HEL-X (K1) I had laying around.
Does anyone have experience using this inside of filters, rather than doing the moving bed filter etc?
Does it clog easy?

Chances are its just taking up space. k1 mainly used in slow to mild moving bed filters. The power of the fx6 is like having k1 in a bottle blown by a powerhead. I would remove it and find a better use for it. Moving bed filters dont really clog because the force of water is usually so weak it can't pick up solid waste (as in air pumps).

I think you might have misunderstood me. I'm not trying to replicate a moving bed filter. I've had one before and I wasn't impressed, that's why I have this k1 sitting around.
I'm simply using it as a bio media in replace of ceramic rings. This should be an adequate substitute right? Would k1 in a fast flowing fx6 clog?

Oh, the point I was trying to express is that the flow is too strong to allow beneficial bacteria to adhere to the media with the flow rate of a fx6 so its kinda useless.

I got 3000gph flowing thru my pool filter with K1 type media. Never backwashed it once in three years. This type of media should not clog and is great for high flow.

It will take a bit longer to colonize but it will in the fx5

It can work out and lasts longer than any other biomedia, K1 is almost uncloggable, I use it in my canister and works well as biomedia.
