What would water clarity be like if just running k1 Kaldness with no form of mechanical filtration?

Thanks

It would be cloudy without anything to trap particles. K1 can trap particles in a pressure filter but if it's used as it was designed to be used it won't trap particles.

Just like what isde02 said, it's a add on for mechanical filtration in order to have more BB back up plans... Specially if you've got heavy dozers of nitrate monsters inside your tank. The way it says it is said that it's self cleaning now will give you an idea, it doesn't trap anything at large cause the movements and it's collision within the wall and itself keeps the k1 kaldness (almost) dirt free.

K1 does nothing for water clarity! ! Get some filter socks and you will be super happy.

getting fed up of filter socks to be honest, thinking of changing my sump to as follows:

Drain to sump
5l of Kaldness in 7.7l chamber (65%) powered by 160litre/ph air pump
Then a vertical 18" x 12" 30 PPI foam that is 1" thick

I know it is normally mechanical before biological but the above would still work very well

Is there any preference of the water flowing through the sponge vertically (18 x 12") or section it off so it enters the 1" x 18" and flows through the 12"?

Thanks
