In my sump I have maxspec spheres in stacks...I have sections
Section 1 ( inlet) 1kg of stacked spheres with a maxspec anaerobic block on top.
Section 2 is planted that needs weekly pruning.
Section 3 ( return) has a reactor with carbon and another 1kg of stacked spheres.

I'm finding the the nitrates have been creeping up to 40ppm last few months.
My system is 300l with flowerhorn in the DT....I tested the tap water today and the nitrates are 5ppm.
So i did 100l WC.
Now I'm thinking of taking out the carbon from the reactor and replacing with K1 micro

What do you guys think...would it make any difference?
Thx

nitrates won't be removed or reduced by media, only by plants and regular sizeable water changes

Unless you built a proper Nitrat reactor it will not be broken apart. Your tank is way to small for that to be senseful, so just do water changes, ad more plants and use the space for sth. else if your reactor doesn't do what its supposed to do.
