i've had my filter setup for about 10 days now.
Ammonia level went down to 0 - 0.5 within days. I am currently experience a nitrite spike (1-1.5). I shouldn't have any problem with the aerobic bacteria that process the ammonia. Should i be concerned about the Anaerobic bacteria population though? as it is such a oxygen rich environment within the filter.

below is a video of my filter when i first set it up , i've added more k1 media since then

Ammonia --(aerobic bacteria)--> Nitrite --(aerobic bacteria2)--> Nitrate --(Anerobic bacteric)--> nitrogen gas.

One strain of aerobic bacteria converts Ammonia into Nitrites.
A second strain of aerobic bacteria converts Nitrites into nitrates.
The Anaerobic bacteria that digests nitrates will only colonize in an oxygen free (i.e. anaerobic) environment. You would need to setup a completely separate oxygen free nitrate reactor to process nitrates into nitrogen gas.

You have successfully colonized the first strain of aerobic bacteria. Now that you have food (nitrites) for the second strain of aerobic bacteria they will start to colonize and convert nitrites into nitrates. I think that water changes or Pothos Plants are much easier ways to control nitrates than using a Nitrate Reactor.
