Kaldnes filtration so far not cured yet. Its been setup for 3 week and I already see results; the tank ammonia was always at 2.0 even with water change every 2 wks, now it is in between .25-.50 ammonia. It's impressive to me because this tank for the past year was a tragedy with ammonia.

this setup is thanks to - uarujoey -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzY7PZycmc4

You had 2ppm of ammonia in that tank? There's hardly any fish in there!

Where do you get this stuff?! I've looked everywhere for it, and it seems that it's not that easy to find.. Nice tank btw! ;)

seriously tell me about it... but probably due to a lot of other issues too the water in the bay area have ammonia around 2.0, and cycle probably wasn't done correctly, or stocking.

so out with the old diy sump and in with the Kaldnes.

THX!

I'm sure there's more to the story. If your tap water has chloramines, then it will register as ammonia on your test kit, because chloramines = chlorine + ammonia. This is making it seem that any other media doesn't work and gives you ammonia, while K1 is the only thing that works, which we all know isn't the case :)

2.0 reading in the Bay Area......???? Not in my neck of the woods. Straight from my tap it's next to nothing.

I know you are right, but I can never find the solution in that tank, so end up trying something new "K1".
just a noob still learning, lol.

i don't know I'm in Oakland, but after the water change a week later reads 2.0. 2.0 all the time!
the sump then was a diy wet dry filter the one where you use the sterilite plastic shelves and a 20 gallon rubbermaid...
sponges, carbon, ammo chip, chop up pvc pipes, and biomax.
