So Cal
Hopefully someone can help me figure this out. My kamfa flowerhorn has been doing this strange thing for the past week or two.

He is hitting his head really hard against the heater at night time and it even wakes me up as it makes a rattling noise

At first I thought it was nitrite lvls but they were fine, plus I just did a 70% w/c w/ prime and added a new canister filter (fluval G3) and tank is super clean. Temp is 82deg.

He has ate TheraA his whole life so I dont think its parasites as he is hitting his head and not his belly...

Could this be a sign of HITH? Or could be since his nuchal hump(kok) has been starting to grow and maybe that could be why he is his hitting his head? When I say hitting his head I literally mean twitching and banging his top head against the heater or glass.

Here's a top pic where I see a black spot on his kok...any ideas?

When you do a large waterchange like 70% in a bare bottom tank, your taking alot of the beneficial bacteria out of the water column. Did you clean your filters aswell? Maybe your tank is going through a mini cycle.

Another thing you can check is the heater itself. The fact that the fish is only doing it at night in the dark could suggest a stray current being emmitted. If you have another heater change it and see if that helps.
