Hello all!

This is my 10 gallon tiger shrimp tank, its not much but they seem happy
I picked up a 55 hex with allot of other fish and these guys..the owner said there was about 40 and when we got there, the numbers were closer to 200!, sold some of them off to get down to the numbers have now.

Some show allot of blue! others have red stripes Im thinking of separating them out and trying to breed for those traits Anyway here is the tank and some shrimp shots^_^

Questions/comments are welcomed!

Im new to shrimp so any constructive criticism is appreciated

The tank is filtered with what is rated as a 50 gallon sponge filter that came with there tank, java moss, anubia floating plants, pennywort, and one log and substrate all from there original tank.

Feeding is every other day small potions of one of the following: algae wafers, thawed blood worms, Omega one tropical flakes, canned unsalted green beans,or thawed zucchini, and on W/C days for the other tanks i randomly pull out a clump of plants and toss it in to the shrimp tank where they swarm it picking it clean ^_^.

Im really enjoying having a shrimp only tank.!!

5-6 of the large females have berried up in the last few weeks of me having them in the 10 gallon

How many can I safely keep in this tank before needing to thin the herd?
(got a new camera for the b-day so lots of pics testing it out)

Nice swarm :D Mine have yet to get berried :(

Typically I believe the numbers are 10 to a gallon, however I've heard/seen breeders keep 2000 in a 20 gallon :D

i think it depends a lot on how heavily planted the tank is... if its bare bottom with barely any climbing spots then you'd expect to keep maybe roughly around 500 in a 3ft tank easily, but in the same tank, if it was heavily planted, you could keep up to 2000+

I know one guy who had a 3ft Crystal Red Shrimp tank which started off with 20 CRS, then by the end of 2 years, he had about 3000+ shrimp... so i would say its pretty much relative to how you setup your tank, and how much you think your tank can handle bio load and space wise...

On a similar note, i used to know a CRS breeder that had about 1500+ in a 24" tank, although he would periodically take out the ones that weren't as nice and feed them to this other fish... although i have to say, those not so good looking ones would still fetch a pretty penny if he would have sold them... although as he claims he was just too lazy...

Freaking adorable.

Thank you every one! ^_^ Im really loving this project it probably will be upgraded to a 20 extra tall or a 16 long..not sure yet, but the end plans for it is pretty heavy on the planted side soon as i can update the substrate and the lights over the next few months.

hmm good to know more plants..better lights!...tigers go for 6$ each around here around here i think ill sell them at about 4$ each.

those guys are badass!

thank you ^_^

Freaking adorable.

i never thought an all shrimp tank could be so amusing!..and cute!^_^

Wow surprising to know tigers are so much there, in Hong Kong they are almost worthless... Like 1$ usd a piece at most...

On the other hand SS grade and up CRS, King Kongs etc can fetch up to $500 - $1000 USD a piece if not more if its really top notch...
