Keep filter plugged in!

I got a fluval 305,had it running for a day or two and the water was crystal clear,than all of the sudden it got really cloudy and murky. I kept trying water clarifiers water changes and nothing helped. I figured I would change the filter pads......went to go unplug it and *wham* it hit me right in the head. KEEP IT PLUGGED IN!

I dun get it, what hit you in the head?
 
im guessing it was un plugged for some reason and when he went to unplug it to change filters he found out it wasnt plugged in??? idk
 
filters only work when they are running... weird but true...
