Aloha all! Just received a new toy for my flowerhorn, Bowser. He seems to dig it but I am not too sure how long I should keep it in the tank. I planned on leaving it in 24/7 but it seems like he will just keep messing with it non stop. Ive seen others use mirrors and they take them out periodically. Just curious to see if that should be the same for this.

Pretty cool seeing Bowser interact with it. Especially how he uses his tail on it.

That is honestly one of the best toys I've seen for a FH. Awesome find. The only time I would remove it from the tank is if he gets big enough to eat it. That would be the only time I would think it would be dangerous for it to stay in the tank. Granted once he is big enough that it needs to be removed you could easily switch it out for just a regular circular fishing bobber for him to smack around, that's what I used to use for my Oscars when I still had them. Lol for me it was either add the bobber or have em spit rocks at the glass.

Thank you for the responses. I shall leave it in there and let him mess with it. There was a larger yellow one I saw on a post here but I could not find it. Wanted to get that one once he gets older. The flowerhorn in a video was pushing it all over the tank rather than smacking it.

I'll try the bobber once he gets larger and I give up on the yellow toy. Would love to see my guy push that thing around.

I found the smaller one on Amazon:

I would say observe your fish to see if it doesn't get stressed over longer duration. Personally I would not leave it there as fish might stress over it and it doesn't serve any purpose.

I'll keep an eye on him...actually have been since I put it back in. He has chilled on it quite a bit but does swim near it constantly.

Thanks for the link. I went ahead and ordered the toy for my girl. Hopefully she'll play with it (beat it up) like yours does.

No problem and would love to see how she interacts with it. Love seeing different personalities in flowerhorns

Mine, now, mostly ignores it but jabs at it every once in awhile. Unless he is rocking it like crazy while I'm at work.

Main thing, he does not seem stressed from it.

Hello, did you end up getting the toy for your flowerhorn? I decided to take mine out and let him mess with it occasionally since he would go so hard at it. I did not want him to self-inflict an injury.

I did run into a 75 cent rubberball in the gum machine at the supermarket. Seems harmless and does get attention but only if I drag it. I'll leave this in 24/7

Let him play with it! I have a basketball in the tank with my O...he plays with it 24/7.
